4/3/09 Salt and Vinegar Chips

Have you ever had a salt and vinegar chip? I had my first one today. They're a little spicier than pier fries with salt and vinegar but it's the same delicious combo: potato, oil, salt, vinegar. I'm guessing it's a New England thing, but I really don't know. I'd love your comments about this!

Yep! Were they brand "Humpty Dumpty"? As a kid, going to the general store to get a coke, red hot dog, and a bag of these chips felt like a real treat.

You seem to uncover all the Maine foods. And you do the Maine things like smelting. I am proud of you!

Fiddlehead season is coming....

I am one of your faithful readers from Florida!? And, "salt n' vinegar" chips are all the rage down here! :) Or, at least whilst I was growing up! :) They have a taste that you need to acquire at first, because they tend to assault your tastebuds!? You'll find yourself craving another baggy of them, once you get used to it though; so eat carefully! You just might have a new addiction on your hands! :) :)

I think you'll find that vinegar is a common theme in/on a lot of things in Maine.

I fell way behind in my blog reading this semester--finally catching up. There's a lot of variety in salt n vinegar chips; different brands have widely varying degrees of intensity of vinegaryness. I think the origin is England, where vinegar is an accompaniment to real chips (what we Americans call french fries), dashed on directly from the bottle. Of course, you can also get s and v "crisps" in England as well.
